Curtain Cleaning
Curtain Specialists
Cleaning Angel is a full service professional dry cleaners, with a retail store presence, who specialise in curtain dry cleaning. We offer both curtain dry cleaning and curtain laundry, depending on the type of drapes and material.
First, we spot clean any stains on your curtains, then we give the curtains a thorough clean overall and finally your curtains will be pressed to give them the best finish possible. Your curtains will get the care and attention of an expert dry cleaner to ensure that we get the best results possible. In fact, with larger curtains, two expirenced pressers are involved. Curtains with eyelets, metal hooks, plastic hooks etc., we can clean them all. Cleaning curtains needs experience and knowledge as some curtain manufacturers do not fully think through a need for cleaning and may put a wash only lining with a dry clean only curtain!
That’s where our years of experience and knowledge come in. We will examine the curtains in detail and highlight any potential issues to you in advance of cleaning.
Allergies
For allergy sufferers in particular, cleaning curtains regularly will provide significant relief to indoor allergy symptoms. Dry cleaning will get rid of those horrible dust mites that can cause all kinds of difficulties for young and old alike. Cleaning your sitting room / living room curtains in particular will give relief here, but don’t forget about your bedroom curtains too. You’ll love how much less dust you see flying around! Whilst nothing will completely remove mould that has been in your curtains for years and years, the dry cleaning process will completely kill the mould spores, making the curtains perfectly safe.
Why Clean Curtains ?
Curtains are one of those things that, as you see them every day, you often don’t notice the very gradual build up of dirt on them. But even if they don’t look dirty to you, curtain cleaning goes a long way towards keeping your home clean and fresh. Regular cleaning of curtains will both prolong their life and make your home a cleaner and healthier place to be. The answer is Curtain Dry Cleaning!
Most house curtains, whether they’re cotton, velvet, silk, linen or lace, custom made or off the shelf, are made of woven fabrics that gather dust, pet hair and even mould spores. Over time, these things accumulate and begin to make your window drapes look tired.
This accumulation will also drastically affect your indoor air quality. Every time the curtains are opened or closed, every time a pet or person brushes against them, the dust and other debris gets disturbed and begins swirling around in your home. You’ll find that debris can also settle on your furniture and carpets where they’re often a bit more obvious. Whilst we dust and hoover these on a regular basis, our curtains are often neglected!
Curtain Cleaning Process
Our cleaning process initially examines the fabric to identify the most appropriate approach to cleaning. Most curtains are dry clean only, but there are some which can also be washed carefully in a commercial machine.
We then examine every inch of the curtains for any stains and treat each of those with steam or specific specialist solvents. Different stains are treated with different solvents. Then the curtains are cleaned in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. They are then re-examined to ensure that all stains have been removed and if not, those stains will be re-treated and the curtains re-cleaned.
Unfortunately some stains can get set in the threads over time and no amount of cleaning will remove them. Regular cleaning removes this risk and ensures we can get you the best result possible.
Finally, your curtains are pressed and hand finished to look their best. Irrespective of whether you have pleated curtains, rod pocket, box pleat, pinch pleat, French pleat, metal rings, tailored pleat or goblet curtains, our pressing will make them look their best.
Specialist Curtain Cleaners
Specialist Curtain Cleaners & Drapery Cleaning, Cleaning Angel are amongst Dublins best Curtain Cleaners, always providing excellent service to our customers. Even so, not all curtains can be cleaned – typically, it’s the lining that causes problems.
Curtains with a rubberised or bonded lining causes problems, as the sunlight heats the glue used to bond the material and breaks it down. This isn’t apparent until the curtain is treated with our cleaning solvents, when the lining then breaks down, typically in strips, the exact shape of the window!
Fire retardant treated lining which is cleaned, loses the fire retardant properties in the cleaning process, so this is something that it’s important that you are aware of before you decide to buy or clean these types of curtains.
Interlined curtains with cotton or poly cotton lining are typically fine to be cleaned.
Many people ask us this question and the answer depends on the type of fabric and lining that you have. There are many different materials that your curtains may be made out of.
The best fabrics for the washing machine are cotton and polyester.
Your curtains should have a care label on them that outlines what type of cleaning is most appropriate. There may be reasons why curtains may be dry clean only, relating not just to the fabric, but also the dye used or embellishments, so always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If you’re in any doubt, bring them in to your local dry cleaners and ask them for advice. If you do decide to wash them, be sure to only do it on a cold wash. Please note that washing your curtains can lead to colour loss and shrinkage. If you would like your curtains to be professionally pressed after cleaning, we also provide this service. Please note that the quality of finish is directly impacted by the cleaning process, e.g. if curtains are too dry, this will impact on the pressing results.
Silk, velvet, or organza curtains can’t be washed in a washing machine.
Curtains featuring box pleats, embroidery, raised stitching, or other embellishments also won’t do well in a washing machine, you are always better to bring these to specialist curtain cleaners.
Sun damaged curtains
Curtains obviously hang on windows where the sun is constantly bleaching them. As time goes by, this bleaching affect becomes more noticable and they might become very fragile. Take extra care to either hand wash or machine wash on gentle to keep them intact. Unfortunately, neither washing nor dry cleaning them will bring the colour back.
If your curtains are made of silk, velvet or organza you should take them straight to your local specialist dry cleaners. You should also dry clean any curtains with intricate design elements or any curtains with ornamentation. If your curtains don’t have a care label, it is best to take them to your local dry cleaners.
Steam cleaning curtains and dry cleaning curtains are very different. Steam in itself does not clean, but it is very good at dust removal and removing and wrinkles from fabric. 'Dry Cleaning' actually involves soaking your curtains in a cleaning solvent, which removes dirt from your curtains. It is called 'dry cleaning', as the curtains go into the machine dry, come out dry and no water is used! Dry cleaning is the best way to clean your curtains.
There are different options for washing your curtains.
Some curtain materials are never suitable for washing such as velvet, brocade, wool and silk. Washing any of these fabrics is likely to shrink the curtain.
The best way to find out if your curtains are suitable for washing is to check the care label on the curtain. If there is a letter 'P' in a circle then they can be dry cleaned, if there is a laundry basket icon, then they can be washed. Cleaning Angel are happy to help you by either dry cleaning or washing your curtains.
If your curtains are not suitable for either dry cleaning or washing, then clean use your vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the material and use the steam function on your iron to remove creases.

Top Tips for keeping your curtains looking their best.
Weekly
Before cleaning and hoovering a room, give your curtains a good shake to dislodge any dust. Wait 10 minutes for the dust to settle, then dust your furniture and hoover the floor.
Monthly
Once a month use the dust brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner to clean curtains from top to bottom, paying extra attention to the top 5 inches where the majority of dust accumulates. Do NOT use the upholstery attachment since its teeth may snag the fabric and destroy your curtains.
